With a cozy terrace, friendly staff, and delicious takes on the classics of bistro cooking, Les Philosophes stands above many of the restaurants of the trendy Marais neighborhood.
The location just couldn't be better: on the corner of the lively rue Vieille du Temple and the quaint rue du Trésor, it's a wonderful spot for people-watching, but with a terrace that is comfy enough to discuss the meaning of life.
You may order à la carte (mains around 18 euros) or off the prix-fixe menu (2 courses for 21, 3 for 27.50) As an starter, order the Asian chicken salad or the tomato tarte Tatin (the house specialty). The pavé au poivre is delicious, but our favorite main dish is the crispy honey-encrusted duck. Les Philosophes serves every classic French dessert, but if you don't have a sweet tooth, you can get a plate of 5 cheeses instead. The wine list is extensive, but they often run out of table wines like Côtes du Rhône. The server's recommendations will not disappoint.
Do not miss a trip to the bathroom, downstairs: Heavy phrases like "Je doute" (the Cartesian "I doubt") or "Que dois-je faire?" (What should I do?) adorn the mirrors. In the middle is a display which uses mirrors and bookshelves to create the illusion of an infinite library.

I just had the duck last night. It is delicious! The waiter was talkative and friendly, too.
