Even if you know nothing about sculpture, a couple of hours at the Rodin Museum Gardens is a valuable respite from routine. The setting can stimulate reflection and discussion as pensive as the Thinker statue, or as light-hearted as the colorful blooms that adorn each winding path.
The gardens display three of the artist’s major works – the Burghers of Calais, the Gates of Hell, and the Thinker, but it is the setting that seems to get the best reviews. Gardens surround the graceful 18th-century hôtel particulier, which houses the museum itself and served as the artist’s residence from 1908. A visit to the gardens without access to the rest of the museum costs just 1€. For 5€ more, you may tour the entire permanent collection and temporary exhibitions.
